Siena Escapade

A guided tour of the towns and vineyards around Siena.

Siena Escapade

In the collective imagination the Province of Siena is justifiably considered the quintessential Tuscany and has inspired travellers and artists for centuries.

Siena itself, thanks to its "Contradas" (the city's neighborhoods) and the Palio horse race, survives as an archetypal medieval city; the Creti Senesi, the area to the east of Siena with its lunar-like landscape and clay-coloured hills dotted with lone cypresses, grazing sheep, and farmhouses; the rugged area of Chianti with its vineyards and castles; the Val D'Orcia, Unesco world heritage site with its gentle hills and the jewel of Pienza; the towers of San Gimignano and Monteriggioni; the abbeys and monasteries rich in works of art and magical atmosphere; the archaeological sites of the ancient inhabitants of this area, the Etruscans.

Then there are the great wines of Tuscany: Chianti Classico, Brunello di Montalcino, Vino Nobile di Montepulciano and Vernaccia di San Gimignano that ideally accompany the typical dishes of the area which is famous for its soups, high quality meat, white truffles and traditional Sienese sweets.

All of this and more can be discovered from the inside with a licensed guide who can open doors onto a world that the guidebooks will never reveal and will give you a chance to explore at your own pace, satisfy your curiosity and open your eyes to new experiences. A private guide is like a friend who will introduce you to a city, a work of art, a wine from an insider's standpoint and give you a chance to share the same emotions. Far from the crowds of mass tourism, together you can design an itinerary based on your personal needs and interests and give you a chance to take home memories of an unforgettable trip.

Antonella Piredda discovered this area a number of years ago and decided to make it her home. After an intensive period of study she passed the exam to become a licensed guide for Siena and its Province. Besides art and literature, she is also passionately interested in local traditions, gastronomy and wine and has done a sommelier's course. She now lives in a charming medieval village in the heart of the Province of Siena.
