Umbria Restaurants
Norcia is famous not only for the fabulous black truffle but also for the production of excellent cold cuts – so much so that both pig butchers and the producers of hams and sausage are given the name “norcini”.
In the vicinity of Città del Castello and Gubbio, both the black and prestigious white truffle can be found.
A regional speciality is the wild pigeon and along with grilled meats represents one of the classical dishes of Umbrian cuisine.
Umbria is also the region where “porchetta” was first produced – the origin of which is often mistakenly attributed to the region of Lazio.
The most famous Umbrian D.O.C. wines are: Sagrantino e Passino, Torgiano, Montefalco Rosso, Colli Perugini, Colli del Trasimeno e Colli Altotiberini.
