Mountain Hotels
These are spread out among two main mountain ranges, the Alps to the north and the Apennines which run southwards through the peninsula for 1200 km. Some 28 percent of the entire territory of the Alps is in northern Italy. The southern-most region of Sicily is home to Mount Etna, Europe's largest active volcano.
The Alps and the famous Dolomites have immense tourist appeal all year round; their slopes are an established favorite with skiers and mountaineers. The nature reserves and parks which are the natural habitat of numerous plant and animal species including the brown bear, wolf, lynx, and wild boar, provide the perfect holiday destination for nature lovers and families alike.
