Rising up out of the sea just off the far end of the Sorrentine peninsula, the island of Capri has long been the Bay of Naples' most desirable, and glamorous destination. Preferred playground of the rich and famous since Roman times, Augustus found Capri's enchanting landscape the perfect antidote to the stresses of office; Tiberius even moved the imperial capital here, and transformed the island in magnificent theatre for his infamous "royal" revelries.
