Grottammare: introduction

Grottammare Hotel

Grottammare is a well established tourist destination, the medieval heart of which has been preserved, with ancient walls and narrow streets, buzzing with tourist activity which is linked to the seaside. Grottammare has an impressive beach, among the most sought after of the Riviera Picena, which, with its shallow sea bed, is particularly safe.

Grottammare is also well known for being the Birth place of Pope Sisto V, many of whose belongings can be found in the Diocesan Museum. Among the sites to visit are the Church of St Lucia, which is dedicated to Pope Sisto V (whose portrait in oils can be found in the sacristy), the Church of St Agostino, the Monument to Italy by Vito Pardo and the Castle ruins.

The town hosts a number of events linked to the popular traditions, the most important of which are the Sagra Giubilare and the Indulgenza plenaria.
