In the heart of the Vermenagna Valley, Vernante is a small town with an antique heart, the origins of which date back to the Roman Empire. Vernante owes its name to "Verna", a plant which is prolific in the valley and features on the of the town's coat of arms.
To visit: the ancient Castle of Turusela which dominates Vernante and represents one of the finest examples of walled Castles in the whole of Italy, and the Parish Church of St Nicolao decorated with numerous frescos.
Not to be missed: the more than 90 murals depicting the most significant episodes from the story of Pinnocchio, paintings which reproduce the illustrations of Attilio Mussino, the most famous artist to have illustrated Pinocchio di Collodi. Thees murals can be found on the walls of the houses of Vernante.
Those searching for relaxation will find Vernante the prefect place where to rest and regenerate, a town surrounded by a centuries old beech wood which is part of the Palanfrée Nature Reserve of Woods and Lakes.
