Castello di Calcione Historical Residences

The existence of the Castello di Calcione, situated in the countryside of Lucignano in the province of Grosseto, can be traced back to the 10th century when it was inhabited by the religious order of Sant Eugenio. Later, in 1483, it became the residence of the aristocratic Lotteringhi della Stufa family, who were granted the title of Marquis by Ferdinando de' Medici in 1632. From that moment in history onwards, the castle has been irreversibly linked to the traditions and lifestyle of this noble family.

Castello di Calcione is located amidst the gently undulating hills of the Val di Chiana, one of the best loved parts of the Tuscan countryside. This extensive property, comprised of vineyards, olive groves, woods and agricultural land, in addition to the castle after which it takes its name, is also home to a number of delightful country houses.

Today, the Castello and the houses have all been completely restored and transformed in elegant holiday accommodation. Two of the houses, "San Giuseppe" and "La Fornace", can accommodate 17 and 8 people respectively."San Pietro" and "Fontegianelli" are the names given to two complexes where to find a group of apartments for 2 to 8 people. Antique furniture and romantic open fireplaces feature in rooms equipped with every modern comfort.

Whilst strolling through the woods and across the meadows within the grounds of this vast property guests come across three swimming pools, a tennis court, and two fabulous lakes. In the immediate vicinity there are golf courses and riding stables. An excellent Extra Virgin Olive Oil, highly praised wines, honey, fruit, and vegetables are all produced within the estate grounds.
