Hotel L'Antico Pozzo San Gimignano

Hotel L'Antico Pozzo is a historical residence in which to discover the history, legends, and centuries-old charm of San Gimignano, one of Tuscany's most fascinating and beautifully conserved medieval towns.

The hotel occupies an ancient 15th century palazzo, located on Via San Matteo; the principal thoroughfare of the "city of towers". Long before its transformation in hotel, the Antico Pozzo served as convent in which trials for the Inquisition were conducted. Legend has it that in the middle ages, the well after which the hotel has been named was used to suspend virgins who refused to submit to the "Droit de seigneur".

Recent subject of extensive restoration work, theHotel L'Antico Pozzo conserves great part of the ancient Palazzo's original architectural features. A beautiful combination of 18th century decorative pieces, traditional Tuscan furnishings, and the comforts of a modern hotel characterize the hotel's romantic guest bedrooms.

In the 18th century, Hotel L'Antico Pozzo's Sala Rosa was used as venue for glamorous social events attended by the local aristocracy. Today, the Sala Rosa has been transformed in attractive bar and breakfast room. During the summer months, breakfast is served al fresco in the pretty internal courtyard.
