Medieval meets modern, in Montecatini Val di Cecina

Three reasons why you'll love it here

  1. A holiday in a medieval tower
  2. Tradition and technology in Tuscany
  3. Italian interior design at its best

When you put an art collector, one of the country's most important exponents of Italian rationalist architecture and an ancient medieval tower together, the result couldn't be anything other than spectacular!
Spectacular like Torre dei Belforti, a 14th century tower in the countryside just outside Volterra.

Designer history

When owner Emilio Jesi entrusted the restoration of his tower to the architect and designer Franco Albini back in the 1960's, he knew exactly what he wanted: a period residence which would unite ancient history, modern design and the surrounding landscape to perfection.

Thus, within the massif medieval walls of Torre dei Belforti, you'll find examples of the best Italian design from the 1960's, including lights by Castiglioni and Tobias Scarpa and chairs personally designed by Albini. Then there are the works of art: ornaments, paintings, prints, and, through the windows, the glorious Tuscan countryside.

Towers watching towers: two of Torre dei Belforti's little windows face the nearby Fortress of Volterra and the Rocca Sillana.

Hi-tech tower

There isn't a single room in the five storey Torre dei Belforti which won't surprise you.
The large lounge is the heart of the tower. This is where you'll find a mega screen television, a hi-fi with CD player, a docking station for iPhone and even an old fashioned record player, complete with the owner's collection of vintage vinyls. Wi-Ficonnectivity is available throughout the tower.

Exclusive retreat

There are two bedrooms in the tower, each with king size bed, sitting area, and enough space to comfortably accommodate an extra bed or a cot. The tower's living room, which occupies an entire floor of the building, can be easily transformed into a third bedroom.
Ideal for family dinners, the kitchen occupies a whole floor of the tower and features the latest generation of electrical induction cooking stoves and a large dining table.

Period residence Torre dei Belforte is available for minimum stays of 3 nights - but you'll want to stay much, much longer!

Time to relax

The first thing you'll want to do when you arrive at Torre dei Belforti is to climb up the tower to see the view from the top. From the panoramic terrace, the view extends all the way across the Tuscan countryside, beyond the woods, to the sea and the island of Elba.
Torre dei Belforti's gorgeous garden, with its immense olive grove and shady, cyprus tree-lined avenues, provides the perfect place in which to relax. For outdoor dining, there's a barbecue area and a pergola with dining table and chairs.

Great news: Palazzo dei Belforti now has a lovely swimming pool too!
