Borgo della Marmotta Spoleto - Umbria

In the 17th century, and thus many centuries prior to its recent transformation in elegant farm resort and country hotel, Borgo della Maromotta was built as tiny hamlet in the countryside on the outskirts of Poreta, town just outside the city of Spoleto. The hamlet has remained remarkably unscathed by the passage of time: allowing for the original dwellings, stables, granary, and oil press to be converted in the rooms and apartments of one of Umbria's most elegant farm resorts.

Were they able to speak, the walls of Borgo della Marmotta would tell a centuries long-tale of life in the Umbrian countryside. Furnished in traditional country style, with romantic open fireplaces, exposed wooden beam ceilings, terracotta floors, four poster beds and rare items of antique furniture, each and every one of Borgo della Marmotta's bedrooms and apartments offers a pleasing combination of old world charm and the latest in modern technology. The resort's apartments are equipped with living room, kitchenette and wi-fi internet connectivity.

Breakfast is served either in Borgo della Marmotta's large dining room or, in warm weather, beneath the pergola which extends in to the garden. The dining room, once an old pen and with characteristic stone walls facing south on to the garden, provides the perfect venue for light lunches and tastings of local wines and gastronomic specialities. A meeting room is available for small scale conferences and seminars.

On Borgo della Maromotta's agricultural estate the area's ancient farming traditions are still passionately observed. The Terre di Poreta project employs organic farming methods to produce cereals, wines and an excellent extra virgin olive oil. The farm's innovative Adopt an Olive Tree campaign proposes the adoption at a distance of one of more olive trees, from which the adoptive parent will later be able to extract the oil. Finally, few can resist the pungent aroma and unique taste of Umbria's black truffle, to be savored fresh out of the ground (available by reservation only).
