In a fascinating vernacular building, the character and charm of which the passing of time has failed to alter, one finds 'Le Coccole dell'Amorosa'. This welcoming and authentic restaurant was opened in 1971 in what were once the stables of the Medieval farmstead of the Amorosa, situated south of Siena, in an area famous for the white Chianina cows. The careful conversion of the building has ensured that all of its original architectural features can still be seen.
The menus, inspired by local culinary traditions, have evolved in time into a fabulous contemporary expression of Italian cuisine.
Chef Giancarlo Propedo, with his enthusiastic team of young cooks, gives precedence to typically Tuscan products: cold meats, home made pasta, Chianina beef and Cinta pork originating from the ancient Sienese breed, traditional farmyard animals such as chicken, duck and rabbit, vegetables and herbs grown on the farmstead, cheese produced on the hillside of Pienza, home made bread, desserts and ice creams. The white truffle of San Giovanni d'Asso and the extra virgin olive oil of the Siena region, are two of the great protagonists which contribute to the creation of those flavours and aromas which are such an intrinsic part of the Tuscan culinary tradition.
The wine list features labels from the most highly acclaimed Tuscan producers, alongside a careful selection of wines from the other regions of Italy. The wines of the Fattoria dell'Amorosa are well represented by the full bodied 'Borgo Amorosa' and by the young and extremely drinkable 'Rosso dell'Amorosa'.
