Ravenna

Ravenna was an important strategic and commercial center of the Roman Empire. The city has been awarded special status by UNESCO because of its wealth of ancient mosaics, which have made the city famous throughout the world.

The history of Ravenna, from the period of Imperial Rome to that of the late Medieval era has left the town with an incredible number of monuments and in particular, some spectacular baptisteries, basilicas and mausoleums.

What's more, the town of Ravenna is associated with Dante, the "father of the Italian language", who chose to be buried here. There are a number of Museums to visit: the National Museum, the Archiepiscopal Museum, Domus dei tappeti di pietra, the Dante center of the convent brothers, the Dante Museum, the Ravenna Art Museum, the National Museum of Underwater Activities, the Planetarium, and the Museum of the Unification.
