Umbria Gubbio

The pearl of Umbria, with a wealth of monuments and events to celebrate Medieval traditions.

Welcome to Gubbio, considered to be the pearl of the Umbrian region. Here you will find monuments, the envy of much of Italy and the rest of the world, just waiting to be discovered: the Roman Theatre, the Basilica of St. Ubaldo, the Palazzo dei Consoli, the Piazza Pensile, Palazzo Pretorio, Palazzo Beni, Palazzo del Bargello, the Bargello fountain, the Palazzo del Capitano del Popolo and the Palazzo Ducale.

The ecclesiastic buildings are of great importance: the Cathedral, the Church of St Maria Nuova, the Church and Convent of St Agostino, the Church and Convent of St Francis, the Church of St Giovanni, the Church of St Pietro and the Church of St Domenico. In addition to the medieval architecture, at Gubbio one can admire the frescoes of Ottaviano Nelli, in the Church of St Maria Nuova and in the Convent of St Agostino.

The local traditional events linked to the history of the town are the highlights of Gubbian life; two of the most well known of which are the Corsa dei Ceri and the Palio della Balestra, which are held annually on May 15th.
