Castello di Petroia Scritto di Gubbio - Umbria

Castello Petroia is an ancient medieval stronghold occupying a commanding hilltop position in the countryside immediately outside the city of Gubbio, from where it dominates the whole of the Chiascio valley. An extensive restoration project has brought to light all of the castle's original splendour and resulted in its transformation in exclusive historic residence.

The 12th century Castello di Petroia, is comprised of three buildings, the "Castellare maggiore", the "Castellare minore" and the "Mastio". All but one of the castle's bedrooms and suites are located in the Castellare Maggiore and Castellare Minore. Antique furnishings, timber ceilings, and period paintings create a warm and welcoming atmosphere. Rooms are equipped with every modern comfort, some have whirlpool bathtubs and open fireplaces. The "Torre del Mastio", the ancient watch tower, has been converted in a unique apartment, distributed on various levels. On the highest floor of the tower there is a private terrace affording breathtaking views across the Umbrian countryside, the same landscapes which inspired the great Italian renaissance artists Perugino and Piero della Francesca.

A patchwork of woods and meadows characterise the countryside surrounding the Castello di Petroia. A magnificent olive grove borders the swimming pool and the hotel's practice golf course. The Castello di Petroia has a number of elegant public rooms. Breakfast is served in the Sala Guidubaldo. The hotel's main dining room is located in the Sala degli Accomandugi. The Sala degli Stemmi functions as comfortable living room and bar. The Sala dell'Astrolabio, the Loggia, and Belvedere are all suitable for small scale social events and business meetings.
