Castelsardo: introduction

Castelsardo Hotel

Created on a promontory of Vulcanic origin, Castelsardo was a stronghold of the Doria and then of the Aragons of the Kingdom of Sardinia. The characteristic village of Castelsardo is made up of tiny houses, built on the slopes, rising towards the summit of the promontory. The "domus de janas", funeral architecture of the ancient island civilizations, are of great interest.

To see: the Fortifications of the Bellavista Castle, the Church of Nostra Signora di Tergu and the ruins of the Benedictine Convent. Inside the Castle one can admire the Exhibition of Mediterranean Weaving, and in the town, baskets and many other items continue to be woven and sold.

Castelsardo is the most important of the towns producing Sardinian craftwork, with numerous shops selling ceramics, furniture, souvenirs made from cork, and rugs.

The most important event is that of Lunissanti, ritual performed during the Holy week
