La Posta Vecchia Ladispoli - Rome
5 stars luxury
La Posta Vecchia, a stunning 17th century seaside palace, immersed in beautiful Italian gardens and overlooking the Mediterranean sea, offers guests a genuinely luxurious and peaceful retreat, a mere 40 minute drive away from the center of Rome. The villa was built around about 1640 for members of the powerful Orsini dynasty, over remains of the ancient Roman settlement of Alsium. In later centuries the villa served as more humble Carriage House for mail stages travelling up the coast north of Rome, hence the name: La Posta Vecchia.
In 1960 the property was purchased by the American Industrialist Jean Paul Getty, who financed an extensive restoration program to restore the villa to its original glory. Whilst work was in progress, the ruins of an ancient Roman villa were uncovered, ruins which can be observed in the small archaeological museum housed in the basement of the hotel. Getty furnished the building with precious artefacts which he had collected during his extensive travels throughout the world. It was only after Getty's death that the estate was transformed in exquisite 19 bedroom hotel, its rooms still adorned with priceless artworks and antiquities from the late millionaire's extremely personal collection.
As one might expect in a villa which still exudes the atmosphere of a private home, the bedrooms and suites of La Posta Vecchia are all individually appointed with beautiful fabrics and rare pieces of art. Many of the rooms, like the hotel's splendid indoor swimming pool, overlook the sea.
At the La Posta Vecchia's "The Cesar" Michelin starred restaurant, guests have the opportunity to
savor quite inspirational Mediterranean cuisine. The fruit and vegetables used in the seasonal dishes are all cultivated in the hotel's own kitchen gardens. Unique cooking classes, held to a maximum of four participants, see guests select the ingredients necessary to make their favourite dish from the Cesar's à la carte menu, directly from the vegetable patch and fruit orchards, and proceed to spend a morning in the chef's company, learning how to transform them in their very own Italian culinary masterpiece.
A conference room with seating capacity for 65 guests. The entire villa is available for exclusive use for special events and meetings.
