Castello di San Marco Calatabiano

Castello San Marco occupies a superb position in Calatabiano; directly above the sea and within easy reach of the town of Taormina and Mount Etna. The castle dates back to the 17th century when it was constructed in pure Sicilian Baroque style as the sumptuous residence of Prince Ignazio Gravina.

The public rooms within the Castle still conserve much of the atmosphere of their aristocratic past; when the Sicilian noble classes gathered in the majestic halls to dine, to dance, and to discuss the affairs of state. Arches made from the local lava rock, magnificent open fireplaces, and immense chandeliers are just some of the features to be admired.
