If you like the idea of staying in a beautifully restored medieval castle, in the heart of Tuscany's Orcia Valley, you're going to love Castello di Ripa d'Orcia: one of Italy's finest historic residences.

Snippets of history

First recorded mention of the castle dates back to 1218, when it was included in the general census of land and castles.
Originally owned by the influential Salimbeni family, in 1484, the castle, the adjoining village, and a large part of the surrounding land became the property of the Carli branch of the Piccolomini family, whose descendants still own the estate today.

Sleeping in the Castle

Today, there are 6 ensuite double bedrooms and 8 self-catering apartments available for guests in the old houses within the castle walls.
Castello di Ripa d'Orcia's apartments are comprised of large living room with kitchenette, open fireplace, one or two double rooms, private bathroom, and sitting room.
The castle's granary has been converted into an attractive communal lounge, in which to read or socialize.
