Castello di Ripa D'Orcia Historical Residences

After careful restoration work, the Castle of Ripa d'Orcia, set upon a hill in the centre of Tuscany's Orcia Valley, has been transformed in unique historic residence.

It is believed that the Castle of Ripa d'Orcia was built in the early Middle Ages, although it does not appear in official deeds until 1218 when it is mentioned in the "Estimo"; a general census of land and castles. During this period, the Castle belonged to the Salimbeni dynasty. In 1484 the castle along with its fortress, the village, and a large part of the surrounding land became the property of the Piccolomini of the Carli lineage, whose descendants still own the estate today.

In the old houses within the castle walls, there are 6 ensuite double bedrooms and 8 self catering apartments available for guests. The apartments are comprised of large living room with kitchenette, open fireplace, one or two double rooms, private bathroom/shower, and sitting room.

Guests dining at the Castello di Ripa d'Orcia's restaurant savour excellent Tuscan cuisine and a selection of superb wines. Recently, the former wine-cellar has been converted in unique venue where small groups, on appointment, can taste the Estate production of Orcia Wines and Extra virgin Olive Oil.
