Lombardy Restaurants
When one mentions Milan, two dishes come immediately to mind – cotoletta and risotto alla milanese. In reality, Lombardy offers a vast variety of dishes which vary quite dramatically from one province to another; dishes like beef with olive oil and anchovies from Brescia, the soup of Pavia, the pizzoccheri of the Valtellina – not forgetting the yellow risotto of Mantova served with ribs of pork. The richest cuisine is without doubt that to be tasted in the province of Mantova where excellent tortelli with pumpkin and agnolini of pasta are served (the latter filled with a stuffing of capon, spices, cheese and egg). Combinations of sweet, sour and spicy ingredients are also popular.
The D.O.C. wines produced in Lombardy are: Lambrusco Mantovano, Tocai di San Martino della Battaglia, Valcalepio, Franciacorta, Oltrepo Pavese, Valtellina, San Colombano al Lambro, and Riviera del Garda.
