Calabria - Aspromonte
Aspromonte is at the Southern most part of the Appenines. From sea-level the terrain progressively rises to an altitude of 2000 meters. Aspromonte is today a protected area and home to a number of extremely rare species such as the Monelli eagle and the tropical fern. Aspromonte comprises the districts of Africo, Bruzzano Zeffiri, Cimino, Cosoleto, Molochio, Reggio Calabria, S. Luca, Scido, Antonimina, Canolo, Cinquefrondi, Delianuova, Oppido Mamertina, S.Cristina, S. Eufemia, S.Roberto, Bagaladi, Cardeto, Cittanova, Gerace, Palazzi, Roghudi, S. Giorgio Morgeto, S.Stefano, Sinopoli, Bova, Careri, Candofuri, Mammola, Platì, S. Agata del B., S.Lorenzo, Samo e Staiti. The most famous sites of the Aspromonte are Montalto, Gambarte, the Polsi Sanctuary, the Zervò Sanctuary, the village of Zomaro, Pentedattilo, Monte Tre Pizzi, Rocche San Pietro, Piani di Junco, Piani di Carmelia, Gallicianò, Monte Stella, Diga sul Menta, Stignano, Lake Costantino, the Maesano Waterfalls, Santa Giorgia, Pietra Cappa, Roghudi Vecchio and Piani di Melia.
