HISTORY

Probably of Etruscan origin, during the Middle Ages possession of the town was disputed by Siena, Arezzo and Florence. Its moment of greatest splendour came in the XV century when it came under Florentine rule. Angelo Poliziano’s verse inspires Botticelli’s pictures, Bellarmino is one of the great figures in the Counter-Reformation, cardinal Cervini is elected pope with the name of Marcellus II.
The famous architects, Vignola, Michelozzo, Antonio da Sangallo and Baldassare Peruzzi, design churches and palazzi for the most important townspeople: the Tarugi, Ricci, Cervini and Bucelli families and the Carletti family, the owners of Villa Cicolina until the beginning of the XX century.

ACCOMMODATION

The Villa :
Over the centuries some patrician families transformed the Villa into their country residence, leaving behind testimony in the frescoes, coats of arms and paintings.

The Breakfast Room :
In the former lemon house, it offers flavours in tune with the surrounding nature, while the classic Tuscan stone conjures up the atmosphere and traditions of the past.

The Cellar :
Dating from the XIII century, it is the oldest part of the villa. With its grottoes and galleries it hides the mystery of the ancient Etruscan people. The barrel vaults have always housed precious casks where the fruit of our vineyards is made noble.

Outdoors :
The quiet and the air that you breath in the gardens, vineyards and olive groves make your stay intimate and relaxing.

The Garden :
With its geometric elegance of rose beds and its travertine fountain, the Italian Garden opens up in front of the small chapel.

The Park :
Immersed in the olive grove, the swimming pool with Jacuzzi gives a view over Tuscany.

The Chapel :
It bears the coats of arms of the noble Carletti family who built it in the XVI century.

The Rooms :
In the main Villa there are elegant rooms and suites furnished with antique furniture making your stay comfortable and relaxing.
Some rooms take their name from the panorama you can enjoy from the window.

Cortona :
The attic, the area once reserved for the servants, today hosts charming rooms with a warm atmosphere where the soft colours, natural textiles and wooden staves make your stay unique.

Il Camino :
The sixteenth-century sculpted capitals, the painted box ceiling and soft silk curtains frame the view over the Italian garden.

Le Perle :
The elegant and refined furniture matching the wall decorations is where the room takes its name from.

Apartments :
In the building which was formerly the chicken run, where the past and the present harmoniously combine.

SURROUNDINGS

Montepulciano: a Renaissance jewel whose imposing sixteenth-century palazzi that line the main street were designed by the most eminent architects of the time: Vignola, Michelozzo and Antonio da Sangallo. The numerous churches and the museum contain works of art by Della Robbia, Taddeo di Bartolo, Vecchietta and Duccio da Buoninsegna. With its characteristic irregular shape, Piazza Grande, the town’s monumental centre, opens up on the top of the hill. The facades of the buildings in different styles prevent the architecture being monotonous and yet are at the same time harmonious. There are panoramas where you can gaze over the Val d’Orcia to Monte Amiata, Lake Trasimeno and the Valdichiana.

Pienza : built with marvellous stylistic harmony, it is a perfect example of Renaissance urbanisation, born of pope Pius II’s desire to build an ideal town.

Montalcino : clinging to a hillside, it preserves the XIII century fortress and is famous the world round for its red Brunello wine.

Cortona : the Etruscans, Romans, Goths and Tuscan Grand Duchy left artistic and architectural testimony of their passage. The land of artists and religion, it lies on a hilltop surrounded by olive trees.

Siena : extraordinary city of art where the past and present combine and blend together, where tourists forget the modern world to step back into the XIV and XV centuries.

Arezzo : the historical centre is on a hilltop in the heart of a fertile area rich in orchards, fields of cereals and vineyards. While strolling along its streets, tourists discover pleasant views over the town and the surrounding area.

Florence : prestigious city of art, the home to Dante and cradle of the Italian language. Located on the River Arno, it is surrounded by marvellous hills illuminated by an amber and ethereal light that has inspired the greatest of artists.

Assisi : A great part of these places’ artistic charm derives from the spirituality linked to Saint Francis which permeates a city of art with its medieval appearance still in tact.

STORIA
 
Città di verosimile origine etrusco durante il medioevo è stata oggetto di dispute tra Siena, Arezzo e Firenze.
Nel XV secolo è passata sotto il dominio fiorentino vivendo il suo periodo di massimo splendore.
I versi di Angelo Poliziano diventano gli ispiratori dei quadri del Botticelli, il Bellarmino è uno dei grandi protagonisti della Contro Riforma, il cardinale Cervini è eletto Papa con il nome di Marcello II.
Celebri architetti : Il Vignola, Michelozzo, Antonio da Sangallo,
Baldassare Peruzzi realizzano chiese e palazzi per le più importanti famiglie patrizie : Tarugi, Ricci, Cervini, Bucelli, Carletti che sono i proprietari di Villa Cicolina fino agli inizi del XX secolo.

i lnucleo più antico della villa risalente al XIII secolo con le sue grotte e i suoi cunicoli cela il mistero dell'antico popolo etrusco le volte a botte custodiscono da sempre preziosi berriques dove il frutto dei nostri vigneti si rende nobile

la quiete e l'atmosfera che si respira nei giardini, nei vigneti ed uliveti rendono il soggiorno intimo e rilassante

Montepulciano : gioiello  rinascimentale lungo il suo corso si susseguono imponenti palazzi cinquecenteschi progettati dai più grandi architetti dell'epoca : Vignola, Michelozzo, Antonio da Sangallo. Le numerose chiese e il museo contegono opere d'arte di Della Robbia, Taddeo di Bartolo, Vecchietta, Duccio da Buoninsegna.
Sulla sommità del colle si apre piazza Grande : centro monumentale della cittadina caratterizzato dalla planimetria irregolare. Le facciate dei palazzi di stili diversi, evitano ogni monotonia architettonica fondendosi in un insieme armonioso, dai belvederi lo sguardo si perde dalla Val d'Orcia al Monte Amiata al lago Trasimeno alla Valdichiana.
 
Pienza : costruita con una meravigliosa armonia stilistica è un perfetto esempio di urbanizzazione rinascimentale nata dal desiderio di papa Pio II di costruire una città ideale.
 
Montalcino : arroccata sul fianco di una collina conserva la fortezza del XIII secolo , è famosa nel mondo per il suo vino rosso : il Brunello.
 
Cortona : Gli etruschi, i romani, i goti, il granducato di Toscana hanno lasciato a Cortona la testimonianza artistica e architettonica del loro passagio. Terra di artisti e di fede è arroccata su una collina piena di ulivi.
 
Siena : straordinaria città d'arte dove il passato e il presente si mescolano e si confondono, dove il turista dimentica il mondo moderno per immergersi nel XIV e XV secolo.
 
Arezzo : Nel cuore di un territorio fertile ricco di frutteti, cereali, vigne, il centro storico si erge su una collina, passegiando per le sue vie il turista scopre piacevoli scorci della città e dei dintorni.
 
Firenze: Prestigiosa città d'arte, patria di Dante e culla della lingua italiana, posta sulle rive dell' arno è circondata da meravigliose colline illuminate da una luce ambrata e diafana che ha ispirato i più grandi pittori e scrittori
