Castrum Cortesianum

First recorded mention of the villa dates back to the 10th century. In the 15th century, the building served as the sumptuous residence of Paolo Cortesi, prelate and secretary of Pope Julius II.
It was Cortesi, one of Italy's most eminent humanists, who converted part of the edifice into an important center of humanistic studies: the Castrum Cortesianum.
