Innovative Neapolitan cuisine at Seiano's panoramic L’Accanto.
A terrace with a spectacular view of the Bay of Naples and Vico Equense's picturesque fishing district of Seiano, and a chef, Michele De Leo, who, in no time at all, has already earned the eatery its first Michelin Star. This is "L'Accanto", the Grand Hotel Angiolieri's much talked about restaurant, which first opened its doors in 2007 to the joy of lovers of gourmet Mediterranean cuisine. The hotel is one of the Sorrentine Peninsula's finest, occupying a beautifully restored 18th century mansion, built on the site of an ancient Roman villa. The light-filled interiors are elegant and welcoming, the service impeccable. To compliment the exclusive nature of their hotel, the owners wanted an epicurean restaurant which would introduce guests to the very best of the region's culinary traditions. The meeting with Torre del Greco-born Michele De Leo, man behind the "Buco" of Sorrento's Michelin Star, was, therefore, destined to be love at first sight.
De Leo's dishes are characterized by the intense flavors and aromas of Campania, and an exquisite contemporary lightness, fruit of the young chef's experience in world-class restaurants both within and beyond the Italian borders. Many consider De Leo to be the rightful successor of the great Alfonso Iaccarino. L'Accanto's menus feature typical Neapolitan dishes, brilliantly transformed into innovative modern masterpieces guaranteed to delight the senses. The perfect example of De Leo's creativity, his "Incucio Napoletano" experiments with four tantalizing tasters using salt cod. Naples makes its presence felt once more in dishes such as the "Fusilloni pasta with clams, cherry tomatoes and flakes of mozzarella", and "Pasta and Peas": De Leo's ingenious transformation of a humble and much-loved Italian dish into the tasty filling for his oriental-style ravioli.
Michele De Leo continues to delight the palate with exquisite desserts, prepared with Amalfi's highly prized "sfusato" lemons, used to perfection in crushed ices, meringues, almond soufflés and lemon biscuits with ice-cream. Not to be missed, De Leo's fabulous babà, best savored whilst contemplating the breathtaking view of the sea and the Bay of Naples.
