Besides being of historical importance, Montefalco is well known for its agricultural activities and in particular for the production of a fabulous wine: il Sagrantino di Montefalco. The wine is produced from century old vines, originally imported from Asia by the Franciscan monks, vines which cover an entire hillside for more than 16.000 hectares to which other grapes are added such as San Giovese.
Montefalco enjoys a privileged position compared to other Umbrian cities, boasting a marvelous panorama opening out on to the Topino valley and the Clitunno. As far as the historical center is concerned; worth visiting are the Church of St Agostino, the Church of Bartolomeo, the Church of St Chiara, the Gates of Federico II, the Church of St Francis, the Church of St. Illuminata, the Church of St Fortunato and the Palazzo Comunale. In the art gallery it is possible to see frescoes such as the tales of St Francis by Gozzoli and the nativity scene by Perugino.
