Montauto Chianciano Terme

Montauto is an old farmhouse surrounded by woods and fields, with spectacular views of the surrounding countryside. It has been beautifully restored by Benedetta Origo, one of the daughters of Antonio and Iris Origo, the "pioneers" who bought the La Foce property in Val d'Orcia in 1924. Its architecture is in typical Tuscan style, proportionate and spacious, built around a central courtyard which provides delightful privacy amongst a profusion of flowers.

Benedetta originally restored this house for herself and her family (it can comfortably hold 10 people), and it is elegantly furnished with antique furniture and fireplaces, many books, local pottery, and family pictures, besides having all the modern commodities that we have come to expect.

The old stables on the ground floor have been turned into a spacious kitchen/diningroom and several bedrooms, which open onto a pretty courtyard with rambling roses, lavender and rosemary bushes.

Montauto is surrounded by a lovely informal garden with many special places for different moments of the day. Two outside dining areas, a pergola covered in wisteria, and a terrace with comfortable chairs, ideal for drinks at sunset, create a wonderful atmosphere.

There is a large pool, 12 x 6 mt, on a terrace just below the house, that enjoys a wonderful view of the pines and cypresses of La Foce and the Amiata mountain beyond. It is protected by a wooden gate that makes the garden safe for small children.
