At long last, after two years of restoration works, the Grand Hotel Continental reopens on February 2002 to the guests, in Palazzo Gori, commissioned by the Chigi family to the famous architect Giovanni Fontana in the 17th century. The great doors to each chamber usher you into spaces that it would be unjust to describe as mere rooms.

From the suites to the single rooms, each one is different, with frescoed vaulted ceilings or coffered wooden beams, terracotta floors, prints and paintings of acknowledged value, and splendid period furniture. How can anyone fail to be thrilled on entering the magnificent San Cristoforo suite with its precious authentic 15th century fresco, the tower suite on two levels with bijou panoramic studio, or the delightful octagonal room with four-poster bed, the ideal love nest for newlyweds.

The utmost care is lavished on each and every detail, from the precious marble of the bathrooms to the latest technology for contact with the rest of the world, all in flawless harmony to ensure that each guest's stay is more than perfect.

For light refreshment, there is the excellent "Sapordivino". It is hardly any wonder that the cream of Siena and its surroundings also choose this venue for lunch, dinner or an enticing aperitif to the accompaniment of a baby grand piano. "Sapordivino" is a far cry from the classic restaurant, and not only by virtue of its magnificent setting beneath a crystal ceiling in the towering courtyard of Palazzo Gori.
