The earliest existing documentation concerning Borgo San Felice is dated 714, the year in which the powerful bishops of Siena and Arezzo came in to dispute over the control of the Church of San Felice. For centuries San Felice has been known as one of the principal wine producing estates of the Chianti region, and it is here in the vineyards surrounding the old hamlet, or borgo, that the grapes for some of the world's finest wines are cultivated. In recent years the cluster of stone cottages and elegant 19th century houses of which the borgo is comprised, have all been meticulously restored and transformed in luxury country resort, member of the esteemed Relais & Chateaux group.
