Tuscany Casentino

The Casentino spans the valley of the Upper Arno River. Much of the area forms the Casentinesi Forest National Nature Reserve, which, with its vast woodland, is one of the most beautiful in Italy. Here you can also find tiny Medieval villages and castles, such as those of Camaldoli and Verna.

The tradition of craftsmanship in the Casentino, includes ironmongery, carpentry and pottery as well as weaving and cobbling. It is easy to lose oneself amidst the many Medieval Castles of the Casentino such as the Castle of Poppi, the Castle of Porcino, the Castle of Strada, the Castle of Romena, and the Castle of Montemignaio.

There is a wealth of culture to be found in the Museum of Contemporary Art, the Carlo Beni Ornithological Museum, the Rossi Rural Home Collection, the Camaldoli Forestry Museum and the Armi Archeological Museum, the Verna Sanctuary Museum and the Carlo Siemoni Forestry Museum of Flora and Fauna.
