Our restaurant „Finsterwirt" is situated next to the dome square, only a 3 minutes walk from our Hotel "Goldener Adler".
The Oste Scuro, situated near the Cathedral, is indissolubly bound up with Bressanone and has been well known for its excellent wines since 1743. To preserve the peace during the night, the serving of wine was prohibited from sunset and no light could be turned on. The name Oste Scuro (Dark Host) derives from this past.
In 1904, Anton Mayr, the present owner's great-uncle, bought the "Casa dei Canonici" (the Canons' House). Following his artistic inclination and sophisticated taste, Anton Mayr, who is also remembered as the founder of the Museum of Bressanone, realised the "Künstlerstübele" (the artists' room), which soon became the meeting place of the inhabitants of Bressanone and visitors from all over the world: politicians, researchers, artists. Indeed, Oste Scuro became and remains to this day a veritable institution. Original paintings, historical weapons and artistic glasses decorate the Andreas Hofer Stube, Episcopal Stube and Artists' Stube, where unique specialities are served in a unique ambience.
