Don Alfonso 1890
Restaurants www.donalfonso.comCharming restaurant of Livia and Alfonso Iaccarino, who come from a family with a long tradition in hotel keeping. They have learnt not to take for granted all the traditions that have been passed down and having travelled around the world have tried to learn different customs, different territories, different economies through the alimentary habits, through the fish and meat markets, the vineyards and all the places where life pulses.
Their curiosity has brought them to study the 3000 year history of food and wine in the Southern regions from ancients scripts found at the Agriculture University of Portici.
The Campania region is very fertile and rich in minerals suitable for all cultures due to the lava flows of Vesuvian eruptions. "Don Alfonso's" cooking takes root in the love and defence of these traditions and this heritage and every effort is made to propagate these sentiments even in the presentation of a dish and wine. Eight years agothey started the "Peracciole" farm. The olive oil, the herbs, the vegetables and the fruit whose taste and colour is difficult to forget, all come from here. In an ancient cellar dug in the tufo rock Don Alfonso stores prestigious wines from all over the world.
Don Alfonso 1890 - Location
At the centre of the lovely village of Sant'Agata sui Due Golfi, (so-named because it sits astride the two spectacular gulfs of Naples and Salerno) is a small cluster of houses that date from the nineteenth century. The restaurant occupies the central building, and is surrounded by five luxurious suites for our guests to stay in. Instead, our country farm is situated in the village of Termini- far from S. Agata sui due Golfi about 5 km-in front of Capri Island.
By motorway: Who comes here by car, should follow the motorway Napoli-Salerno until the exit of Castellamare di Stabia and then the directions Penisola Sorrentina. At Meta di Sorrento it's necessary to follow sign posts for Positano and - after 6 km - turn right to S. Agata sui due Golfi.
By train from Naples: At Naples' station - called Piazza Garibaldi - you could take the Circumvesuviana's trains and in about an hour you will arrive in Sorrento. Once there, in 15 minutes by taxi you would be in S. Agata sui due Golfi.
By hydrofoil from Naples' port - Molo Beverello - you could arrive in Sorrento in 30 minutes, once there you just could continue by taxi until S. Agata sui due Golfi.
Other ways from Positano and Sorrento: Besides the excellent taxi's services, that we sincerely suggest, at lunch you could come here by buses (SITA, Circumvesuviana).
