Palazzo Fieschi
4 stars www.palazzofieschi.itIn the picturesque hilltop village of Savignone, in the lush green Scrivia valley and just 25kms from the city of Genoa, Palazzo Fieschi is a superb choice of hotel for those wishing to explore the Ligurian countryside whilst sojourning in one of the region's most stunning historic residences.
It is thought that the building dates back to the 15th century. The earliest existing documentation regarding the edifice concerns the alteration work made between1565 and 1569 by Count Ettore Fieschi, when he transformed what was then a medieval fortified building complete with two angular watch towers, in his own private and extremely luxurious family residence.
In 1847 Palazzo Fieschi was rented to Dr Romanengo, the man responsible for the property's conversion in hotel and spa. An extensive restoration project, initiated in the 1990's, allowed for the recovery of many of the building's previously hidden original features, a prime example of which are the spectacular vaulted ceilings on the fist floor of the Palazzo.
Today, guests stay in 24 elegantly appointed bedrooms and junior suites, all of which decorated with beautiful items of antique furniture and equipped with every modern convenience.
Superlative Italian cuisine and wines are served in the hotel's magnificent frescoed dining rooms. Seasonal menus feature dishes prepared using the very finest Ligurian produce.
A much requested venue for high profile business and social events, Palazzo Fieschi has meeting and banqueting halls with a seating capacity for as many as 150 guests. During the warm summer months, the gardens of the hotel provide a fabulous open air location for glamorous wedding receptions and concerts.
