The Galleria Ferrari Maranello

The Galleria Ferrari Sights & Activities

The Galleria Ferrari is housed in a modern and functional building, and it was opened in February 1990.
From 1990 to 1995, the Galleria Ferrari was managed by the Comune di Maranello, which also owns the building.
From 1995, the museum has been managed directly by Ferrari.
Recently, over the course of ten months, the existing building was modified to add a dynamic quality to the display of cars and objects.
The changes also ensured that the exhibition area reflects the spirit of the company: to progress, improve and tackle new challenges, knowing that the best car has yet to be built, reflecting the views of Enzo Ferrari.

What's inside
The Galleria is laid out over several rooms, devoted to the display of historic cars, Formula 1 cars and modern Grand Tourers. Also on show, examples of innovative technologies, trophies, technical drawings, films and photographs, as well as the Ferrari Shop containing original Ferrari items.
The visit follows a pre-set route, which begins with the section devoted to Enzo Ferrari and the legend he created during a 55 year career, reaching the heights of sporting and commercial success achieved under the Presidency of Luca di Montezemolo.
The second section is devoted to the Formula 1 cars, past and present and the cups and trophies accumulated at race tracks around the world.
The third part highlights modern road cars, displaying sophisticated mechanical and electrical components for competition use and the Wind Tunnel, including its scale models.
This route ends with the amphitheatre used for themed displays, this year dedicated to the 250 GT, which celebrates its fiftieth anniversary.

Aims
A visit to the Galleria Ferrari is not only important in terms of discovering the company's history. It is also a way of exploring the key stages in the development of the automobile industry and Ferrari's contribution to it in terms of innovative technology and safety over its 55 year history.

Relationship with the area
The development of the company has certainly contributed to the development of a predominantly agricultural area, creating a induction of highly specialised and renowned companies which have grown to meet the demands of Ferrari.
Furthermore the Galleria Ferrari which is located 300 metres from the Ferrari factory of which it is an integral part, has contributed in a major way to an increase in tourism to the area, with around 180,000 enthusiasts visiting each year. This has brought a collective benefit to Maranello, giving life to a variety of cultural activities.

Itinerary of a visit
On the ground floor, with cars, photos and films one can see the key stages in the development of the Cavallino Scuderia from its beginnings to the present day.
Of great interest is the office of Enzo Ferrari which houses a few artefacts which are important to the history of the company.

The exhibition begins with the Ferrari 125 S, built in 1947, the first car to bear the sign of the Prancing Horse on the bonnet.
The 125 S was very innovative in terms of technology and design, combining sporting performance and great elegance.
It made its debut at the Piacenza nel Maggio circuit in 1947 and two weeks later brought Ferrari its first win at the Rome Grand Prix driven by Cortese.

The 360 Spider is the synthesis of years of competition and is the twentieth spider to be produced, characterised by its sophisticated styling and technology.
The 360 spider stands out not just because of its elegant lines, but also because of its performance: a 90 degree V8, with a top speed around 290 km/h, 400 hp at 8000 rpm, 0-100 km/h in 4.6 seconds.

Formula 1 cars have pride of place in Galleria Ferrari, given that Ferrari is the only constructor which builds every component of its cars itself and that it has raced continuously since its debut in 1947.
The history of the company is told through the cars on display, which evolve with every passing year, right up to the very latest model.
The first and last cars are always on display.
Today, one can admire the 158 F1, driven by John Surtees when he took the title in the 1963-1964 season, the 1989 F1 driven by Nigel Mansell, the Formula Indy car from 1987 which never raced but was the result of Enzo Ferrari's intention to take part in the American Indy series. Also on show, the F1 world championship winning cars from 1999, 2000 and 2001, the latter having also competed in the early part of this season, winning the Australian Grand Prix. All the cars are shown against an F1 backdrop, featuring pits, pitlane and pitwall.

The first floor is devoted to technological innovation and examples of how these as well as aerodynamic developments transfer from the F1 cars to the Grand Tourers. Amongst the cars on show, the 1995 F50, the 2001 Pininfarina 550 Barchetta and the 1999 360 Modena. Also on show, the prototype 4 wheel drive 408, and F1 and GTchassis, engines and gearboxes, suspension parts and the Master Model of the very latest car the Enzo Ferrari and its relative carbon model made in 1:3 scale for the wind tunnel.

The theatre alongside the Galleria is home to two Formula 1 simulators for use by visitors and themed exhibitions. In the current year, this theme is the 250GT, a car of great historic importance in terms of style and results. This year is the fiftieth anniversary of production of the first model in this series, the 250 MM, which was landmark in the marque's history.

Amongst others, the 250 GTO and the Spider California as well as an original wooden buck of the Pininfarina 400 SuperAmerica, used to shape it's aluminium body panels.

Then, in the Galleria Ferrari's Ferrari Shop, it is possible to acquire original Ferrari merchandising including authentic components from the Formula 1 cars.
