Vespa tours & river rafting

Two great ways to experience Tuscany c/o Belmond Villa San Michele

June in Tuscany. That special time of year when spring merges into summer; when the fruit blossom falls to make way for deliciously juicy cherries and super sweet apricots; and the rolling hills surrounding Florence, carpeted with shimmering olive trees and line upon line of green grapevines, are drenched in wonderfully warm sunshine all day long...

June is also the time of year when the average Italian leaves the car in the garage, swapping it for what is, arguably, the country's best-loved form of transport - the Vespa!

Vintage Tuscany

The chance to take a tour of Tuscany astride a vintage moped is one of the unique and utterly unforgettable experiences available to guests staying at Belmond Villa San Michele.

Belmond Villa San Michele's Vespa tour begins in the hilltop town of Fiesole where the magnificent 5 star hotel is located. From here, you'll scoot along the 50km-long "Road of the Seven Bridges", through beautiful, undulating landscapes and past picturesque medieval villages, Romanesque churches and ancient bridges as far as Arezzo.

Déjà-vu? Got a wierd feeling you've seen the seven-arch Buriano bridge before? Leonardo da Vinci included it in the background of his world-famous Mona Lisa!

Rafting under the Ponte Vecchio

As if scooting along the narrow roads of Tuscany were not thrilling enough, Belmond Villa San Michele has come up with an even more exhilarating experience: river rafting in the Tuscan capital!

Expert rafters, Ettore and Zeno, guide participants along the 2km route which, from the San Nicolo wier, follows the flow of the river Arno, passing under the legendary Ponte Vecchio and three of the other historic bridges which straddle Florence's famous waterway.

Adrenaline junkie? Race over the rapids in the river Sieve!

At the end of the hair-raising ride, and after a swim in the crystal clear water of the river Sieve, you'll be rewarded with a picnic of typical Tuscan treats, served on the river bank.

Suites with a view, of Florence

On the hills overlooking the historic center of Florence, occupying an ancient monastery, the facade of which was designed by none other than the great Michelangelo, Fiesole's Belmond Villa San Michele is one of the most desirable 5 star hotels in Tuscany.

Renowned for its sumptuous suites, excellent cuisine and impeccable service, this Belmond property provides a superbly luxurious base from where to explore the city in which the Italian renaissance was born and the countryside immortalized in masterpieces by some of the world's most famous artists...
