Probably of Longobards origins, the Trinci family has been the rulers of Foligno from 1305 to 1493. The members of this family exercised their power over the town and the lands with the titles of "Standard-bearer of justice", "Captain of Guelfa part" and "Vicar of the Pope".
The seigniory increased their rule builing their castes and fortresses on a big part of the Umbrian land, and improving their relationships with the most important families.
Trinci palace, situated in Piazza Grande in Foligno, will be for centuries the main palace for political, social and artistic life of the town.
The hills surronding this land are paticularliy idoneus for red wine productions, mainly "Sagrantino", but now a days, the attention is ginen even to eccellent wite wines, among them the most important are "Grechetto" and "Trebbiano".

Many other writers have given their contribution to the diffusion of the its wine civilitazion and the lands owned by the Trinci, extended trough the tawns of Foligno, Bevagna, Montefalco, Gualdo Cattaneo, and Giano dell'Umbria, have given "enological fruits" of the big interest and quality.
