In the 15th century, the villa, first recorded mention of which dates back to the 10th century, was the sumptuous residence of Paolo Cortesi, prelate and secretary of Pope Julius II. It was Cortesi, one of Italy's most eminent humanists, who converted part of the edifice in important centre of humanistic studies. Today, after painstaking restoration work, Fortezza de'Cortesi has been transformed in unique farmstay, designed for those guests wishing to experience the beauty of the Tuscan countryside in a truly exclusive environment.
