Baglio del Marchese Masseria sul mare Marsala - Sicily

Masseria Baglio del Marchese is a luxurious period residence and exclusive farmstay situated on the coast between Mazara del Vallo and Marsala, a shore line known for its soft sandy beaches and which extends all the way to the furthest most point of Western Sicily. A territory where nature, archaeology and ancient mythology merge. Masseria Baglio del Marchese is located within the Margi Spanò and Capo Feto Reserve, on an estate covering some 700 hectares of land. For almost two centuries, great part of the estate has been used for the cultivation of grapes used to produce a number of prestigious Sicilian wines.

The Masseria was originally owned by bishop's see before becoming the hunting ground and summer residence of the Marquis of Montalto Spanò. Silvia Montalto Spanò has transformed the family home in exclusive agriturismo, providing visitors to this part of Sicily an elegant country retreat where to enjoy the pleasures of the Mediterranean sea and the countryside in absolute tranquillity.

The Masseria Baglio del Marchese still conserves all the original architectural features of the building. The edifice, of immense artistic, historic and cultural value, is built on a square plan with internal courtyards around which there are charming "corti di pietra", reminiscent of those mentioned by the Sicilian writer, Tomasi di Lampedusa, in his famous novel, The Leopard.

In each and every room of the Masseria Baglio del Marchese, traces of the history of the luxurious noble residence can be found. Antique furniture in Liberty style, realised by local master craftsmen, floors in marble, exposed timber beam ceilings, period paintings, precious textiles, tapestries, carpets, and exquisite items of porcelain: all combine to create an atmosphere of great charm.

The owners organise both traditional dinners and simple fish and meat grills, to be prepared together with the guests, and accompanied by Tenute di Montalto's excellent wines. Guests pay only for the ingredients used, the cost of which is equally divided between all participants.

Any number of excursions can be organized from the Masseria, especially during the summer: perfect season when to take a boat trip to the nearby islands of the Egadi.
